NJ Woman, 25, Dies In Car Crash On Rt. 21 In Essex County: Police

Authorities have identified a Kearny woman who died in a car crash in Newark. Here's what happened, police say.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Authorities have identified a 25-year-old Hudson County woman who died in a car crash on Route 21 in Essex County last weekend.

The fatal crash took place around 2 a.m. on Saturday on the northbound portion of the highway near Riverside Avenue in Newark, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Newark police received 9-1-1 calls about the single-vehicle crash. Witnesses told officers that the car left the roadway and passed over a guardrail. The vehicle then reportedly fell from the elevated highway before overturning and landing on Riverside Avenue.

Emergency responders had to extradite the trapped driver from inside the damaged vehicle. She was transported to University Hospital in Newark and pronounced dead at 2:55 a.m.

On Tuesday, authorities identified the driver as Estefania Dilone, 25, of Kearny.

A passenger in the vehicle was also transported to University Hospital and sustained minor facial fractures in the crash, authorities said.
