NJ Woman Carjacked, Killed Right After Thanksgiving Dinner

The 40-year-old was a victim in one of two murders in the same New Jersey town on Thanksgiving night. A manhunt is underway.

A New Jersey woman was carjacked and killed while returning home from a Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, authorities said. The 40-year-old was a victim in one of two murders in the same New Jersey town on Thanksgiving night.

The incident happened shortly before 11 p.m. when Newark officers were dispatched to the 300 block of South 20th Street in Newark, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

Arriving officers located Sharie Henry of Newark, who was shot during an apparent carjacking, according to the ECPO. The victim was transported to University Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 11:28 p.m.

Henry, whose first name was identified on Facebook and in other outlets as Shuri, had just enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner with family and was returning to her vehicle with her young nephew when as many as four males armed with guns approached and demanded her car, according to RLS Media.

The victim's 2005 Kia Sorrento, NJ registration D71-FYE, was taken during the incident. Reportedly, three people who were found in the victim's car were arrested (see the nj.com video below), but the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said they had no such information as of 2 p.m. Friday.

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said authorities are seeking the public’s assistance in bringing the suspects responsible for Henry's death to justice.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the victim’s family. To lose a family on any day is a traumatic experience with the loss particularly disturbing on a holiday when families get together to celebrate and enjoy one another’s company.” Ambrose said. “We will work tirelessly with the Essex County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force and leave no stone unturned as we pursue the cowards responsible for this heinous crime. These cowards should have been at home with their families instead of out on the streets committing crimes."

This investigation is active and ongoing. Ambrose is urging anyone with information about this incident to please contact the Essex County Homicide Task Force at 1 (877) TIPS-4EC or 1(877) 847-7432.

The other incident happened shortly after 8 p.m., when Newark police officers were dispatched to the area of 400 South Orange Avenue on a report of shots fired.

Arriving officers found two males with apparent gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to University Hospital, where one was pronounced dead at 8:38 p.m., according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.

The deceased has been identified as Terrance Harris, 46, of Newark. The second victim, who remains unidentified at this time, is being treated for a non-life- threatening gunshot wound, according to Fennelly.

Both incidents are being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department. No arrests have been made at this time and both investigations are active and ongoing, according to Fennelly.
