NEWARK, NJ — You never know who you’ll meet in the checkout line of the supermarket, it seems.

Customers at the ShopRite of Newark on Springfield Avenue recently got an unexpected surprise when they saw that their bagger was Garrett Wilson of the New York Jets.

The wide receiver was visiting the supermarket to help raise awareness about food insecurity, an issue that impacts a whopping one in 11 New Jersey residents. It’s part of ShopRite’s larger effort to provide funds to local food banks through its “ShopRite Partners In Caring” program.
