NY Man Tried To Bring Gun Through Checkpoint At Newark Airport: TSA
Another out-of-state resident was arrested at Newark Airport. Here's what happened, authorities say.

NEWARK, NJ — Another out-of-state resident was recently arrested after trying to bring a gun through a security checkpoint at Newark Airport, authorities say.
An officer with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) detected a handgun in a traveler’s carry-on items at a checkpoint in Terminal B on Tuesday. It was accompanied by a magazine loaded with five bullets.
Port Authority police were alerted, confiscated the firearm and arrested the man, a resident of Bedford, New York. He was ticketed to fly into Nice, France, authorities said.

“Carrying a gun into an airport checkpoint introduces risks to everyone in the area,” said Thomas Carter, TSA’s federal security director for New Jersey.
“Responsible owners of firearms know where their guns are at all times, and they know not to bring them to airport checkpoints,” Carter said.

According to the TSA, guns can be transported on a flight if they are unloaded, packed in a locked, hard-sided case and declared to the airline. The airline will be sure that the gun travels with checked baggage in the belly of the plane, never in the cabin of the plane.
Passengers who are planning to travel internationally should check with the weapons laws of the country that they are planning to enter to determine if they are permitted to be in possession of a firearm, authorities added. Learn more here.
Earlier this month, police arrested a Tennessee resident at Newark Airport after he tried to bring a loaded gun through a security checkpoint. The 9mm handgun was loaded with 17 bullets, TSA officials noted.
