Obama Will Support Phil Murphy At Newark Event: Reports
Former U.S. President Barak Obama will appear in Newark in support of New Jersey governor candidate Phil Murphy, reports say.

NEWARK, NJ — Former U.S. President Barak Obama will appear in Newark on Thursday in support of New Jersey governor candidate and Democrat Phil Murphy, reports say.
Obama and Murphy will appear at the Robert Treat Hotel in Newark for an invitation-only event, NJ.com reported.
“I think a lot of people are missing his leadership and are looking to him to boost the party’s fundraising numbers,” a longtime Obama donor told The Hill, which broke the news about the former president’s Newark appearance last month.

Thursday’s event won’t be the first time in recent history that Obama has appeared in Newark.
In 2015, Obama visited Integrity House, a Newark substance abuse treatment facility, and appeared at a roundtable discussion at Rutgers University as part of his campaign to raise awareness about national criminal justice reform.

According to his campaign website, Murphy – a former Goldman Sachs executive - has garnered endorsements from more than 400 elected officials and Democrat leaders including:
- Former Vice President Joe Biden
- Former Vice President Al Gore
- U.S. Senator Cory Booker
- U.S. Senator Robert Menendez
- State Senate President Steve Sweeney
- General Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto
- All seven Democrat U.S. House of Representatives members from New Jersey
