Planes Collide At Newark Airport Tuesday

NEWARK, NJ — Two planes collided at Newark Liberty International Airport on Tuesday morning, prompting an investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration(FAA).

At 10:20 a.m., a Singapore Airlines flight was "pushing back" from its gate when its right wing hit the tail of Spirit Airlines Flight 992, the FAA told Patch.

No injuries were reported.

"This occurred in an area where air traffic control does not manage aircraft," according to the FAA.

Spirit Airlines told Patch that flight 992 (EWR-MCO) was parked near the gate for de-icing when the Singapore aircraft made contact with Spirit's aircraft.

Guests deplaned normally, and no injuries to Spirit Guests or Team Members were reported, according to Spirit Airlines.

"Safety is our top priority, and the aircraft was removed from service to be evaluated by our maintenance team. We made alternate travel arrangements to get our Guests to their final destinations," said Spirit Airlines.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating.

A request for more information to Spirit Airlines was not immediately returned to Patch.
