Police Probe 2 Fatal Shootings In Newark On Same Day

Two victims, both in their 30s, died in separate shootings just minutes apart from each other, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ -- Two people died in shootings on the same day in Newark, authorities reported Saturday.

The victims died just minutes apart from each other, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, which released the following statements about each shooting.

BROADWAY - "The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the fatal shooting of Jordan Rodriguez, 31, of Newark. In the early morning hours of Saturday, October 8, police responded to a report of a gunshot at the 600-block of Broadway, Newark. Rodriquez was pronounced dead at University Hospital at 3:49 a.m."

BRENNER STREET - "The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the fatal shooting of Altariq Johnson 36, of Newark. In the early morning hours of Saturday, October 8, police responded to the 100-block of Brenner Street, Newark. They found Johnson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to University Hospital and pronounced dead at 3:42 a.m."

No arrests have been made in connection with either shooting, authorities said.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is investigating both shootings. Authorities said anyone with information can contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office tips line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432.
