Police Probe Fatal Shooting In Newark; No Arrests Made
A fatal shooting claimed the life of a 29-year-old Newark resident, authorities said. A police investigation continues.
NEWARK, NJ — Police are investigating a fatal shooting that took place in Newark earlier this week, authorities announced Friday.
The fatal shooting took place on Sept. 7 and claimed the life of Khalif Ligon, 29, of Newark, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety.
Officers responded to the 100-block of Roseville Avenue at 1:49 a.m. after getting a report about a shooting. Police found Ligon suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Ligon was transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:17 a.m., authorities said.

No arrests have been made as of Friday, prosecutors said.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force and Newark detectives are investigating the fatal shooting. Authorities said anyone with information can contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office tips line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432.
