Police Shooting In Essex County On MLK Day: 1 Dead, 1 Wounded, Authorities Say
No police officers were wounded, authorities said.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ – A fatal police shooting took place in New Jersey’s largest city on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The shooting took place Monday in Newark, according to the New Jersey attorney general’s office.
Newark police officers encountered several civilians near Ross Street and Evergreen Avenue around 1 p.m. During the encounter, one of the officers fired his weapon, striking two people.

No police officers were wounded, authorities said.
The wounded civilians were taken to University Hospital. One was pronounced deceased a short time after arriving. The other is currently being treated at the hospital.
