Port Authority Cops Save Man’s Life At Newark Airport

The Port Authority officers later met the man's "very grateful wife."

NEWARK, NJ — Port Authority police officers – with the aid of CPR and a trusty defibrillator – saved the life of a 57-year-old man at Newark Airport last weekend, authorities said.

According to the Port Authority PBA, the rescue took place in Terminal A on Saturday. Following the incident, the involved officers took the opportunity to meet and pose for a photo with the man’s “very grateful wife.”

Port Authority spokesperson Lenis Rodrigues provided the following statement about the rescue:

"On Saturday, September 29, the Port Authority Police Command at Newark Liberty International Airport saved the life of man apparently suffering a heart attack on the AirTrain in Terminal A. Upon arrival, PAPD Officer Amelia Barone found another passenger performing CPR. The officer took over and continued to administer CPR, as did PAPD officers Tom Montagne, Manny Almeida, Gerard Del Polito and Elizabeth Zurlnick, who also responded. The officers also used the defibrillator on the man and was able to revive him. The man was taken to Newark Beth Israel Hospital where he is recovering."
