NEWARK, NJ — Police apprehended a prison inmate who escaped custody in Newark last week within a few hours of her getaway last week, authorities said.

Makena Farrell, 28, was arrested Thursday in connection with “narcotics-related charges,” according to the Newark Department of Public Safety.

Farrell fled from 480 Clinton Avenue – where she was being held in custody – at 2:23 p.m. on Friday.

Newark police put out a call to the public for help finding Farrell after her escape at 6:35 p.m. She was apprehended on Van Vechten Street following a brief foot pursuit, authorities announced at 9:36 p.m.

Farrell now faces charges of escape, eluding, obstruction of the administration of the law and burglary, authorities said.
