Probe Launched Into Police-Involved Shooting At Newark Bar

Prosecutors said four people were wounded in the shooting: an employee, an innocent bystander, a "suspect" and a corrections officer.

NEWARK, NJ — Investigators have launched a probe into a police-involved shooting that took place outside a Newark bar, authorities announced Friday.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, four people suffered non-life-threatening wounds in the shooting, which happened overnight on Pulaski Street.

“The preliminary investigation indicates an off-duty corrections officer discharged his weapon after a patron at a bar pulled a weapon on an employee and discharged the weapon. The incident occurred outside the bar. Four people sustained what appear to be non-life-threatening gunshot wounds – the employee, an innocent bystander, the suspect and the corrections officer.”

All four people wounded in the shooting are being treated at University Hospital in Newark, authorities said.

“The investigation is active and ongoing,” Essex County prosecutors said. “At this point, no one has been charged.”
