In honor of Father’s Day this year, PSE&G, the largest utility in New Jersey, is celebrating Matt Dortch and his family’s resiliency in the face of hardship.
Last year, Matt Dortch Storekeeper, Oakland gas at PSE&G received a call that changed his life: his house was on fire and his 39-week pregnant wife had just escaped with only their dog and the clothes on her back. They lost everything and five days later, they welcomed a new son.

Devastated but determined, they assessed what options they had. Luckily, Matt’s employer, PSE&G, stepped in and provided a lifeline for Matt and his family through the PSEG Employee Crisis Fund.
With the help of the Employee Crisis Fund, PSEG paid the Dortch’s mortgage and living costs while Matt focused on rebuilding his house – and life. Today, Matt and his wife are enjoying life with a one-year-old son and their family dog.

“We experienced tremendous lows and highs last year, and PSEG was there for us through it all,” Matt said. “Now I still work every day, after working at PSE&G, to fully restore my home, but I feel so fortunate to have my loving family, great friends and an employer that cares so much about me. This will be a fantastic Father’s Day.”
And the Dortch’s aren’t the only PSEG family to benefit from the Crisis Fund. The fund, which started 15 years ago when employees came together to pool resources in case one of them should ever need financial support, has helped numerous employees. Recognizing the generosity of spirit and reflection of the company’s core values of safety and integrity, PSEG formalized the program.
