NJ School Counselor In Newark Accused Of Touching Student's Groin

The staff member has been suspended without pay, and is barred from any contact with the victim or the school, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — An attendance counselor in the Newark Public School District has been accused of touching a student’s groin, authorities announced Monday.

James D. Rone-Lewis, 31, of Newark, was arrested and charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Police Department.

“It is alleged that on or about October 21, Rone-Lewis brought a student into his office at Avon Avenue Elementary School in Newark and touched the child’s penis,” prosecutors stated.

Rone-Lewis was taken into custody last week. He has been suspended without pay, and is barred from any contact with the victim or the school.

Rone-Lewis has been released on pretrial monitoring pending disposition of the charges, authorities said. Prosecutors released a photo of Rone-Lewis, which can be seen below.
