Several Shooting, Weapons Arrests Announced In Newark
The arrests involved residents of Newark, East Orange and New York state, authorities said.
NEWARK, NJ — Newark police recently announced several shooting and weapons-related arrests, which included residents of Newark, East Orange and New York state.
The Newark Department of Public Safety released the following statements about each arrest on Friday:
- “On Jan. 2, a 16-year-old from East Orange was arrested on weapon possession charges in connection with a shooting on the 100-block of N. 13th Street. A female victim arrived at University Hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim is reportedly in stable condition.”
- “Ahmed Rauf-Nomaw, 45, of Middle Grove, NY, was arrested on Jan. 1, and faces weapons possession charges. Two male victims on the 900-block of South 16th Street reported that Rauf-Nomaw pointed a handgun at one of the victims before the weapon was discharged.”
- “Quintin Matthews, 36, of East Orange, was arrested for a Dec. 24 shooting at Gareis Street near Blum Street. A male victim was shot at by a male suspect following a verbal dispute. Matthews was identified as the suspect and faces charges of aggravated assault, and weapon possession. No injuries have been reported as a result of this incident.”
- “On Dec. 8, Cordell Tullis, 33, of Newark, was arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred on the 500-block of South 20th Street following a verbal dispute. He faces charges of aggravated assault, weapon possession, and hindering apprehension.”
- “Kerwin David, 40, of Newark, was arrested on Nov. 28, in connection with an armed robbery and shooting that occurred at Orange Street and Roseville Avenue. A male victim was robbed of his cell phone and $55 at gunpoint. During a struggle between the victim and the suspect, the handgun was discharged. No injuries have been reported as a result of this incident. David faces charges of robbery, aggravated assault, criminal mischief, and weapon possession.”
