Shooting, Stabbing Reported In Newark On New Year’s Day
A fatal shooting and a stabbing took place in Newark on New Year's Day, authorities reported.
NEWARK, NJ — A fatal shooting and a stabbing took place in Newark on New Year’s Day, authorities reported.
According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Newark police responded to the 100-block of Rose Terrace in Newark at 7:51 a.m. on Jan. 1 after getting a report about a possible shooting.
The officers found Keith Holland, 45, of Newark, with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:14 a.m.

A "stabbing incident" also took place over the holiday, the Newark Department of Public Safety said.
According to police:
“[Officers] responded to a report of an aggravated assault that occurred at approximately 5:37 a.m. in front of Esther’s Place, located on the 600-block of North 7th Street. The suspects were captured on surveillance video fighting the victim in front of the business and chasing after him when he ran eastbound on Davenport toward North 8th Street.”
