Shots Fired At Newark Gas Station On Christmas Eve: Police

Newark police are seeking a local man in connection with a Christmas Eve shooting that took place at a gas station on Central Avenue.

NEWARK, NJ — Newark police are seeking a local man in connection with a Christmas Eve shooting that took place at a gas station on Central Avenue.

According to police, detectives on patrol in the area of Central Avenue and 7th Street heard gunshots coming from the Exxon Service Station at 481 Central Avenue around 9 p.m. The detectives also saw a silver, four-door Toyota Camry exit the gas station “erratically,” ignore the officers’ attempts to stop it and flee the scene on South 7th Street.

As part of their investigation, detectives determined that a second vehicle which also fled the gas station, believed to be a silver or light-colored Volkswagen, was also involved in the incident, the Newark Department of Public Safety stated.

Detectives later issued a warrant for the arrest of Eury F. Torres-Silverio, 25, of Newark, on charges of Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

“While police are actively searching for Torres-Silverio, we seek the public’s assistance in quickly locating and removing him from our streets,” authorities stated Tuesday.
