Showdown For Newark Council: What To Know For 2022 Runoff Election
Candidates include Anthony Campos/Michael Silva (East Ward), Patrick Council/Terrance Bankston (South), Dupre Kelly/Chigozie Onyema (West).

NEWARK, NJ — A final showdown for three Newark city council seats will take place on Tuesday, June 14 as part of a municipal runoff election.
New Jersey’s largest city went to the polls on May 10 to vote for mayor and members of the council. Several candidates emerged victorious, including:
- Mayor – Ras Baraka
- At-Large Council – C. Lawrence Crump, Carlos Gonzalez, Luis Quintana, Louise Scott-Rountree
- Central Ward – LaMonica McIver
- North Ward – Anibal Ramos Jr.
But several other races with more than two candidates remained undecided, because no candidate got 50 percent of the vote plus one – which triggered a runoff election in that ward. Read More: Newark Council Runoffs Loom, Ras Baraka Claims Victory
