St. Vincent Academy In Newark Graduates 2015 Class

Each of the 69 graduating students was accepted to college.

Saint Vincent Academy, Newark’s only Catholic college-preparatory high school exclusively for young women, graduated 69 students at ceremonies held at the school on June 7.

Following welcoming remarks by Sister June Favata, administrative director, class salutatorian Chinedum Nwaigwe of East Orange offered an invocation and Chioma Onwunaka of Bloomfield delivered the valedictory address.

The commencement address was given by Geraldine Aine, a graduate of Saint Vincent Academy, Trinity College and the University of Connecticut School of Law.

According to a release, every member of the class of 2015 was accepted to and planned to attend college, earning more than $10 million in merit-based awards and scholarships in addition to need-based aid.

Students will be attending a range of in-state institutions of higher learning, including Bloomfield College, Caldwell University, College of Saint Elizabeth, Drew University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Felician College, Kean University, Monmouth University, Montclair State University, New Jersey City University, Rider University, Rowan University, Rutgers University, Saint Peter’s University, Seton Hall University, The College of New Jersey and William Paterson University. Out-of-state choices include Delaware State University, Drexel University, Marist College, Philadelphia University, University of Hartford, University of New Haven, Villanova University, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Salutatorian Chinedum Nwaigwe will attend Dartmouth College and Valedictorian Chioma Onwunaka will attend The College of New Jersey.

The Academy will enroll approximately 300 young women from Newark and surrounding communities in the 2015-16 academic year, a release stated.
