Stop & Shop Helps Newark Residents Celebrate Earth Day 2017

Stop & Shop distributed hundreds of environmentally friendly reusable bags during Bergen County's Party for the Planet Earth Day Celebration

Stop & Shop associates Marjorie and Jessica Contreras provided Newark residents from the Berean Rising Stars Adventure Club with environmentally friendly reusable bags during a visit to Bergen County’s Party for the Planet Earth Day Celebration held at the Bergen County Zoo in Van Zaun Park in Paramus.

Stop & Shop distributed hundreds of environmentally friendly reusable bags during the Earth Day Celebration. The very first Earth Day was held on April 22, 1970, and was created to make people aware of the importance of keeping our planet healthy and clean. On that day, people made promises to help the environment and make positive changes in their community. Since then, more than 500 million people in over 180 countries have participated in Earth Day activities.

Stop & Shop is focused on reducing its cardboard, plastic, organic and food waste and has set a goal to reach zero waste by 2020, and is committed to reducing its energy consumption in all its stores as part of its goal to reduce its carbon footprint by 20%. Stop & Shop is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council and EPA’s Smart Way program, and has been recognized by the EPA for the superior energy management of its stores.
