Have You Met Newark is partnering with Makerhoods to provide behind-the-scenes walking tours of the recently renovated Krueger-Scott Mansion located at 145 Court Street in Newark, New Jersey. The tours are held every other Sunday during the weekly Makers Market. For tickets, please visit www.haveyoumetnewark.com and click on “Public Tours.”

The tour company, Have You Met Newark, celebrating 13 years in operation this month, helped to create the unique event in collaboration with Avi Telyas, the Founder of Makerhoods. The walking tour experience covers the history and culture and architecture around and inside this historic Mansion. Participants will enjoy a 30-minute walk through the Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd neighborhood with 19th century architectural highlights. The tour includes unique access inside of the Mansion itself and discussion of the building’s history as the private home of Gottfried Krueger, a famous Newark beer baron. Guests will hear the story of Madame Louise Scott, the self-made African-American millionaire who built and operated a beauty school and community center on-site for 30 years. The 1.5 hour experience ends with a tour through the many “Maker” spaces behind the Mansion. The shops include a terrarium store, wine tasting venue, cigar manufacturer, fashion and beauty businesses and more. Visitors are encouraged to stay after the tour to enjoy the Market which is being hosted in the courtyard and is a partnership with the Greater Newark Conservancy.
