These Newark Charter Schools Scored High Marks On Latest NJ Report
Statewide proficiency rates are below target. These Newark charter schools are bucking the trend.
NEWARK, NJ — Several charter schools in Newark scored high marks in the New Jersey Department of Education’s latest round of performance reports.
State education officials released the latest School Performance Report earlier this month, with school districts scored from 0 to 100 based on factors like standardized test scores, student academic growth and graduation rates, among other metrics.
The data shows the statewide proficiency rates for math and English Language Arts assessments have fallen below target for the past two years since the pandemic. See Related: Highest-Performing NJ Public Schools Revealed In New Report

But some schools – including four charter schools in Newark – are bucking that trend.
According to the New Jersey Public Charter Schools Association (NJPCSA), the data shows that 21 public charter schools “exceed standards” on student growth set by the department of education’s accountability framework, ranking in the top 15 percent of districts statewide.
