Thief Ripped Off People Recovering From Addiction In Newark: Police

Someone stole money and other items from residents of a drug and alcohol treatment program at a nonprofit in Newark, authorities say.

NEWARK, NJ — Someone stole money and other items from residents of a drug and alcohol treatment program at a nonprofit in Newark last weekend, authorities say.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, officers responded to a report of a burglary at Integrity House in Lincoln Park at 2:51 a.m. on Sunday.

Surveillance video footage shows a man enter the building from the rear. He walks in and out of several rooms before leaving at 3:08 a.m., police said.

A staff member said they entered the bathroom afterwards and found two open bookbags. One was missing $200 that belonged to a resident at the home. A second victim was missing $134 from his bookbag, along with a computer tablet and a pair of Nike sneakers.

Police released surveillance photos of the suspect (see below). He was wearing a white shirt, black shorts, and black and red sneakers.

The same man is also a suspect in a burglary that took place at a tanning salon on Jefferson Street on Aug. 13, police said.
