Tractor Trailer Overturns On I-78 In Newark; ‘Plan Alternate Route’

NEWARK, NJ — An overturned tractor trailer contributed to a rocky morning commute for drivers passing through I-78 in Newark on Tuesday, authorities said.

According to 511NJ.org:

“As of 7:52 a.m., there's an overturned tractor trailer on I-78 local lanes westbound. All lanes closed; ramp from US-22 eastbound to US-1 local lanes.”

Authorities added:

“I-78 Local Lanes westbound On-ramp from Brewster Rd closed is closed in Newark due to an overturned tractor trailer. Follow detour or plan alternate route.”

That wasn’t the only thing slowing down traffic on Tuesday morning, authorities said:

“Heavy traffic on I-78 Express Lanes eastbound Exit 56 - Elizabeth Ave (Newark) to Exit 58 - US 1&9/E. Port St (Newark) current travel time is 20-25 minutes DUE TO OVERFLOW TRAFFIC FROM TURNPIKE'S INERCHANGE 14.”
