Trespasser Gets Electric Shock, Falls On NJ Transit Tracks: Officials

Two people were hospitalized after an incident on the Morris & Essex Line, NJ Transit authorities said.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Two people were hospitalized on Wednesday after trespassing on a set of NJ Transit train tracks in Essex County, authorities say.

NJ Transit police responded to the area of Roseville and 7th avenues in Newark at 3:27 p.m. after getting a report about two people on the tracks, which serve the Morris & Essex Line. They may have been trespassing on an overhead signal structure at the time, authorities said.

One of them was injured by electricity and fell to the tracks below. Both people were taken to a nearby hospital. The extent of their injuries isn’t currently known, authorities said Thursday.

Train traffic was temporarily held and resumed after the incident was cleared.
