United Way of Greater Newark proudly announces its Centennial Gala, a momentous celebration marking a century of dedicated service to the Newark community. The event, set to take place on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the esteemed Newark Museum of Art, will bring together community leaders, partners, supporters, and volunteers to honor the organization's incredible history and look forward to a future of continued impact.
This gala, which is possible thanks to the generosity of Centennial Champion sponsor Wells Fargo, Centennial Diamond sponsor Mars Wrigley and our additional gala sponsors, will serve as a testament to the collective achievements and the lasting legacy of United Way of Greater Newark as a transformative force in addressing critical issues within the community. Over the past 100 years, United Way of Greater Newark has remained committed to improving lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities to advance the common good.

United Way of Greater Newark will revive the esteemed William M. Ashby Community Service Award for the first time since 2016. The award will be presented to Dr. Denise V. Rodgers in recognition of her exceptional dedication and contributions to community service. The William M. Ashby Community Service Award is a symbol of excellence in community leadership and service. It is named after Ashby, a visionary community leader who was New Jersey’s first black social worker and established United Way of Greater Newark.
Dr. Denise V. Rodgers, a trailblazing figure in the field of healthcare and community service, will be honored with the William M. Ashby Community Service Award. Dr. Rodgers' lifelong commitment to improving the health and well-being of underserved populations has made a lasting impact on communities.

Additionally, United Way of Greater Newark will acknowledge and honor Prudential Financial and Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield for their steadfast and unwavering support throughout the years. Their dedication to community development and their extensive philanthropic efforts have significantly contributed to the organization's mission of creating a lasting and positive impact on the Greater Newark community.
