U.S. News Ranks Newark's University Hospital Among the Area's Best
'A hospital that emerges from our analysis as one of the best has much to be proud of,' said U.S. News Health Rankings Editor Avery Comarow.

University Hospital has been ranked among 2013-14's best hospitals in northern New Jersey and the New York Metropolitan area, according to U.S. News and World Report.
The Central Ward medical institution was ranked at #19 in New Jersey and at #39 in the New York Metropolitan Area, and was recognized for its “high performance” in specialties such as Ear, Nose and Throat, Nephrology and Orthopedics.
"We are proud to be recognized for the outstanding care, expertise and dedication that our physicians, nurses and staff provides for patients and their families at University Hospital," said University Hospital President and CEO James R. Gonzalez.
"Our consistent acknowledgment by U.S. News & World Report speaks to our continued leadership and excellence in quality and clinical care," he said.
The achievement is a big deal, said U.S. News Health Rankings Editor Avery Comarow.
“A hospital that emerges from our analysis as one of the best has much to be proud of,” he said. “Only about 15 percent of hospitals are recognized for their high performance as among their region’s best.”
U.S. News said the rankings are determined using objective measures such as patient survival and safety data, the adequacy of nurse staffing levels and other data in most specialties. The data were produced for U.S. News by RTI International, a research organization based in Research Triangle Park, N.C. Using the same data, U.S. News produced the state and metro rankings.
University Hospital is one of the principal teaching hospitals of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences.
