Vehicle Hits, Kills Pedestrian On Springfield Avenue In Newark

A vehicle hit a 49-year-old man on Springfield Avenue in Newark. He was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — A vehicle fatally struck a pedestrian in Newark on Memorial Day weekend, authorities said.

According to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, a vehicle struck Laquan Lamar Jones, 49, of Newark, on the 600-block of Springfield Avenue around 1:55 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:18 a.m.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Crime Scene Investigations Bureau is investigating Jones’ death. No arrests have been made, authorities said.
