Victim, 38, Dies After Irvington Shooting; No Arrests Made: PD

A fatal shooting claimed a 38-year-old victim's life in Essex County. No arrests have been made as of Monday, authorities said.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A fatal shooting claimed a 38-year-old victim’s life in Irvington last week, authorities announced Monday.

Irvington police responded to Highland Terrace and Grove Street after getting a report about a motor vehicle crash on July 8, according to a joint statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Irvington Police Department.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Tariq Patterson, 38, of Irvington, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to University Hospital in Newark, where he was pronounced dead at 8:25 p.m., authorities said.

No arrests have been made as of Monday, authorities said.

The Irvington Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the shooting. Anyone with information can contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office tips line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432.
