Victim Of Fatal Christmas Eve Shooting In Newark Identified

Police found the 47-year-old man "unresponsive" and with an apparent gunshot wound in a Newark apartment building.

NEWARK, NJ — Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal shooting on Christmas Eve in Newark as 47-year-old Ronald L. Spearman. According to police, Spearman’s body was found on Sunday afternoon.

Newark police officers said they found Spearman “unresponsive” and with an apparent gunshot wound in an apartment building on the 400-block of South 15th Street. Spearman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Major Homicide Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is conducting an investigation. Anyone with information can call the Prosecutor's Tips Line at (877) 847-7432.
