WATCH: Newark Mayor Candidates Share Platforms As 2026 Election Enters Home Stretch
Newark's nonpartisan municipal election takes place May 12. A mayor seat and several city council positions are up for grabs.
NEWARK, NJ — Newark mayoral hopefuls spoke about their campaigns at a “candidate conversation” event earlier this week.
Newark Mayor Ras Baraka will face a challenge from seven candidates in the 2026 nonpartisan municipal election, which takes place on May 12. The challengers are: Debra Salters, Douglas Davis, Jhamar Youngblood, Noble Milton, Tanisha Garner, Nasheedah Singleton, and Sheila Montague.
The NAACP Newark Branch, the Ironbound Community Corporation, and the New Jersey Environmental Justice Alliance hosted a “Newark Mayoral Conversation” with the candidates on Monday at Sport Club Portuguese.
