WATCH: Newark Students Perform At Democratic National Convention 2016
The young men are "committed to the pursuit of academic excellence, strong character, and responsible leadership," school officials say.

NEWARK, NJ — They are young men “committed to the pursuit of academic excellence, strong character, and responsible leadership,” and last month, the entire Democratic National Convention knew it.
On July 26, six young scholars from the Eagle Academy for Young Men of Newark performed at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, PA. The young men were part of a group of 38 total Eagle scholars from schools in Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx.

The Eagle Academy is a consortium of all-male public secondary schools that started in the Bronx, in New York City, and now has five locations in New York and in Newark, New Jersey. This school is a collaboration between the Newark Public Schools and the Eagle Academy Foundation.

The mission of the schools are to “develop young men committed to the pursuit of academic excellence, strong character, and responsible leadership,” administrators stated.
