Wellness Center In Newark Gives Women Resources, ‘Safe Space’

The Newark facility aims to "empower women on the brink of recovery to continue their progress."

NEWARK, NJ — As Women’s History Month continues this March, a New Jersey nonprofit is celebrating its own milestone for women: a new wellness center in Newark.

Last month, Integrity House, one of the largest nonprofit providers of substance use disorder treatment in the state, held a ribbon cutting for its newest facility at 667 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

According to Integrity House, the center will provide a “safe space” and offer several programs:

  • outreach, assessment and recovery services
  • women and children support services
  • health and prenatal services
  • housing support services
  • mental health services
  • peer support and life skills development
  • community engagement, wellness and recreational activities
  • education and employment services
  • financial management services
  • tobacco cessation services

According to Integrity House, the center was funded through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) Targeted Capacity Expansion (TCE): Special Projects program. It will provide essential recovery support services to women and pregnant women with substance use disorders, such as opioid use disorder, as well as support services to the families of the women with substance use disorder.

The center’s goals are to “help women in recovery avoid relapse,” “empower women on the brink of recovery to continue their progress,” and “educate families and the community on the realities of addiction and recovery,” Integrity House stated.

Integrity House has programs in Newark, Secaucus, Kearny, Toms River and Morris Plains. The organization opened a residential recovery facility for men within Integrity House's Lincoln Park campus in Newark in 2014.
