Who Is On The Ballot In Newark? Voter Guide For 2025 Primary Election

Voters in Newark will join others across New Jersey at the polls on Tuesday.

NEWARK, NJ — Voters in Newark will join others across New Jersey on Tuesday, June 10 when they head to the polls for the 2025 primary election.

Democratic and Republican candidates are competing for their party’s nomination. The winners of the primary will face off again in the general election on Nov. 4, which will also include third-party and independent candidates.

Voters in Newark won’t face any local choices in the primary, but will get to cast ballots for governor and state Assembly members (Newark is split between two districts). Voters will also cast ballots for county clerk (both candidates are running unopposed).

  • DEMOCRATS (vote for one) – Josh Gottheimer, Steven Fulop, Steve Sweeney, Sean Spiller, Ras Baraka, Mikie Sherrill
  • REPUBLICANS (vote for one) – Mario Kranjac, Jon Bramnick, Jack Ciattarelli, Justin Barbera, Bill Spadea

NJ ASSEMBLY, 28th DISTRICT

  • DEMOCRATS (vote for two) – Chigozie Onyema, Cleopatra Tucker, Garnet Hall
  • REPUBLICANS – no petitions filed

NJ ASSEMBLY, 29th DISTRICT

  • DEMOCRATS (vote for two) – Eliana Pintor Marin, Shanique Speight
  • REPUBLICANS (vote for two) – Noble Milton, Daniela Ferreira Almeida

ESSEX COUNTY CLERK

  • DEMOCRATS (vote for one) – Christopher Durkin
  • REPUBLICANS (vote for one) – Maritza Mathews

The voter registration deadline for the primary election was May 20. Early in-person voting took place from June 3 to June 8. The deadline to pick up a mail-in ballot is June 9.
