The Who's Roger Daltry Gets 'Mystery Virus': Tour Cancelled

The band's lead singer has been diagnosed with Meningitis. "Once Roger is well we'll give you a show to remember," Pete Townshend promises.

The Who have cancelled all dates on their “The Who Hits 50!” North American tour after discovering that lead singer Roger Daltrey’s recent “mystery virus” is Meningitis.

The supergroup confirmed the cancellations on their website on Friday.

“It wasn’t a decision taken lightly,” the band stated in a release. “The Who always give their fans 100 percent and were never going to compromise the show, but ultimately the band had no alternative but to postpone the tour.”

The band had postponed four shows on doctor’s orders after Daltrey contracted an unknown virus, but initially hoped that the rest of the tour might go on.

However, following “extensive tests,” doctors diagnosed Daltrey with viral Meningitis and prescribed a period of rest.

“For the last four weeks, I have been in and out of the hospital,” Daltrey stated. “I am now on the mend and feeling a lot better but I am going to need a considerable time to recover. The doctors tell me I will make a complete recovery, but that I should not do any touring this year.”

“We are rescheduling all the shows for next Spring 2016,” guitarist and songwriter Pete Townshend stated. “We apologize to all our fans who have supported us in the last 50 years. Once Roger is completely well we will come back stronger than ever and Roger and I will give you all a show to remember.”

The band stated that tickets for the original dates will be honored for the new shows, which will be announced shortly.

Planned tour dates had included the Prudential Center in Newark, Madison Square Garden in New York and TD Garden in Boston.
