Woman Fatally Shot Near Newark Intersection: Police
A shooting claimed the life of a 31-year-old woman in Essex County, authorities said.
NEWARK, NJ — A woman was fatally shot in Newark late Sunday evening, authorities said.
Newark police responded to the corner of 4th Avenue and North 12th Street at 11:23 p.m. after getting a report about a shooting. Officers arrived to find a woman suffering from a gunshot wound, according to a statement from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Newark Department of Public Safety.
Emergency responders transported the victim to University Hospital. She was pronounced dead at 1:20 a.m.

Authorities identified the deceased woman as Brielle Alston, 31, of Newark.
The Essex County prosecutor’s homicide task force, which includes Newark detectives, is investigating the shooting. No additional information was immediately available.
