Woman Found Dead in Newark Housing Complex Slated for Demolition

Cause of death not released

Authorities are investigating the death of a 33-year-old Newark woman who was found Friday in a city building slated for demolition.

Nakisha Burks was discovered around 10 a.m. by construction workers at 101 Church Terrace, which is part of the Seth Boyden housing complex, according to Essex County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Fennelly. He said the workers were inspecting the building and preparing it for demolition when they found Burks.

Fennelly said the cause of death will be released "at a later time" and declined to elaborate on how long Burks' body had been in the building or where it was found.
