4 Workers Hospitalized After 'Serious Explosion' In Piscataway

There was an explosion in Piscataway during the pressure testing of a gas line, the town said on social media.

PISCATAWAY, NJ — Four construction workers tending to the River Road bridge over I-287 in Piscataway were taken to the hospital after a "serious explosion" during the pressure testing of a gas line, the town said on social media Friday afternoon.

Volunteer firefighters, EMS personnel, police, the Piscataway Office of Emergency Management, the New Jersey Department of Transportation, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration responded to the scene, officials said.

The I-287 Exit 9 ramps in both directions to and from County Road 622 and River Road is closed and traffic is being detoured due to police activity, the New Jersey Department of Transporation said just before 3 p.m.
