NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — A dog died in a New Brunswick house fire late Thursday night, according to the city of New Brunswick Fire Department.
The fire broke out at 2:21 a.m. at a home on the 200 block of Somerset Street. This is a 2.5-story single-family home, privately owned.
Arriving crews encountered fire on the second floor, and the fire quickly rose to second-alarm status.
While there were no civilian or firefighter injuries, one dog died in the fire. The city fire department did not say how the dog died.
One resident of the home was displaced in the fire, and is currently being housed by the American Red Cross.
Firefighters brought the fire under control and contained the primary fire damage to the second floor.
Edison Fire Dept., East Franklin volunteer fire department, Monroe, East Brunswick and North Brunswick fire companies all provided mutual aid.
