U.S. Dept. Of Defense Doing Urban Combat Training In Piscataway Warehouses

PISCATAWAY, NJ — This week, the U.S. Department of Defense will be using two warehouses in Piscataway for urban combat training — and Piscataway Mayor Brian Wahler is not happy about it.

The training will take place Aug. 10 - Aug. 15 at 444 Hoes Lane (1 Ericsson Drive) and 1 Centennial Avenue, both of which are privately owned property. Both will be used for indoor military training exercises. Residents should not be alarmed to see military vehicles and activity at these sites or possibly hear loud sounds during these days, Piscataway Township warned.

Wahler said Friday in this video that Piscataway Township plans to sue the federal government to stop the training. He said the DOD has done similar trainings in Piscataway before "in the middle of the night," and it alarmed residents.

"I am not thrilled about this whatsoever, given the fact what happened last time, in the middle of the night," said Wahler, adding that he was "very disappointed" the owner of the warehouses is allowing this to happen. "We will be in court."

"It's unacceptable and downright shameful. They obviously don't care about our community."

As of Monday, the private property owners were served with a notice of violation, said a Piscataway Twp. spokesman. A date in municipal court has not yet been set.
