NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — August is when retailers launch their back-to-school marketing campaigns, and Urban Outfitters just unveiled its newest online and TV commercial, filmed at Rutgers and starring dozens of actual Rutgers college students.
The 36-second commercial was filmed at Rutgers' SHI football stadium in Piscataway and includes 76 real college students from over 10 American universities.
The commercial stars the Rutgers University Dance Team, but also features the Rebel Girls & Company dance team from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the famous GSU Tiger Marching Band from Grambling State University in Louisiana.
There are also appearances from American college football stars, such as CJ Bailey (North Carolina State), Steve Angeli (Syracuse) and Tony Rojas and Brett Eskildsen, both from Penn State.
The commercial also includes college-aged influencers and online content creators, like Emily Ha, a student at NYU.
The commercial is called "All Together Now" and the commercial is meant to capture the energy and excitement of college football game days and fraternity-sorority rush season.
Look for the ad to start airing now across Peacock, Netflix and Hulu TV channels, as well as on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.
Urban Outfitters says this is its first dedicated back-to-campus commercial.
Urban Outfitters started out selling its edgy, counter-culture clothing to college students. The company started in Philadelphia in 1970, in a small storefront across from the University of Pennsylvania. Back-to-school clothes shopping and college-dorm-room decor makes up a big part of their business.
