Today's riddle: What is full of holes but still holds water? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. New Brunswick Enters into Payment In Lieu of Taxes Agreement with Developers of County Office Building (tapinto.net) — New Brunswick officials have approved a long-term payment in lieu of taxes (PILOT) deal for a $175 million Middlesex County office building on New Street, guaranteeing the city at least $1 million annually. The eight-story complex will consolidate county offices near downtown while generating far more revenue than the site's current $65,000 in taxes. City planners say it brings jobs without heavily straining local infrastructure or residents.
2. Job hunters warned about fake offers designed to drain bank accounts (shorenewsnetwork.com) — Middlesex County prosecutors in New Brunswick are warning local job seekers about fake employment offers that aim to steal money and sensitive personal information. Scammers are posing as real companies and recruiters, even on major job sites, and may request fees or banking details. Residents are urged to verify employers independently, refuse to pay application costs, and report suspected scams to authorities.
3. Final Jeopardy: European History (8-19-26) (fikklefame.com) — A New Brunswick Ph.D. candidate, Allegra Kuney, competed in the first semifinal of Jeopardy's 2026 Tournament of Champions against champions from Somerville and Washington, D.C. The recap details the Final Jeopardy clue, early scores, and some of the toughest questions from the game for fans following along at home.
4. District Moving Forward with Plans to Rename Lord Stirling School in New Brunswick (tapinto.net) — New Brunswick's Board of Education is moving ahead with plans to rename Lord Stirling Community School and will soon launch a public survey to gather new name suggestions. The move follows a broader district review of school names amid nationwide scrutiny of historical figures, including recent renaming of the former Woodrow Wilson School, and renewed attention to Lord Stirling's ties to the slave trade.
