Rabid Skunk Found In New Brunswick (patch.com) β New Brunswick residents are being alerted after a sick skunk found near Sicard and Bartlett streets tested positive for rabies, the first confirmed rabid animal in the city this year. Middlesex County health officials say there are no known human or animal exposures, but this marks the county's fourth rabid animal case of 2026, underscoring the importance of vigilance and pet vaccination locally.

2. Saint Peter's Opens New And Improved PICU (patch.com) β Families in New Brunswick now have access to an expanded, state-of-the-art pediatric intensive care unit at Saint Peter's Children's Hospital, where critical care beds increased from eight to fourteen. Supported by the Dorothy B. Hersh Foundation and state funding, the new Hersh PICU offers private rooms, enhanced family space, and advanced care for seriously ill or injured children from across New Jersey.

Parent says official used racial slur before Metuchen football game (mycentraljersey.com) β An alleged use of a racial slur by a game official before Metuchen High School's Sept. 4 football game against New Brunswick has prompted a complaint to state athletic authorities. Metuchen's athletic director and a player's parent say multiple players and coaches corroborated that the official twice used the N-word while delivering a pregame sportsmanship message.

Forbes 2027 College Rankings: Princeton at No. 2; NJ Schools Shine Among Top 500 (wrat.com) β Rutgers University in New Brunswick landed at No. 81 in Forbes' 2027 list of America's Top Colleges, giving local students and families a fresh data point on value and outcomes. Princeton ranked second nationally, and several other New Jersey schools also placed within the top 500.
