The litter patrol focuses on fighting litter throughout the city, as well as engaging in beautification projects. The six-week program will run from June 27 to August 5. There is no work over the July 4 weekend.
Teens will work half days on weekdays at $13 an hour. The city is looking for 15 teens and one supervising instructor for the program. New Brunswick Recycling Coordinator Erin Maguire will oversee and provide five hours a week of recycling and solid waste education as part of the program.

“This is an ideal program for teens who are interested in beautifying our city,” said New Brunswick Mayor James Cahill. “Not only is it a paid summer job, in which students learn how to help save the environment, it is also an excellent way to learn how trash impacts our community and what New Brunswick is doing to combat the problem.”
For the second set of jobs, the city is looking to hire 10 students for part-time work to assist the city’s parks and public works divisions to maintain city parks, green space and rights-of-way. Work includes lawn mowing, weed whacking and removing litter. Applicants must be at least 16 years old for this work and will be paid between $13 and $17 an hour.
These are half-day shifts on weekdays. Work could be extended throughout the year as the students learn the trade. Anyone 16 and older can apply.
These summer jobs are in addition to the job opportunities through New Brunswick's Play Safe program, which hires approximately 25 teens as senior and junior summer camp counselors every year.
