MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ — Don't let the drab, cold (well, sort of cold) days of winter get you down. Here is just a sampling of things to do with children and teens this January, February and March right here in your backyard in Middlesex County:

Make "Art Together" at the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University – Art Together is the Zimmerli's FREE drop-in family art making workshop series. "Dragons and Mythical Beasts" playing Jan. 15 at State Theatre NJ in New Brunswick

Showtimes at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. "Calling all brave heroes! Enter into a magical world of myths and legends in this fantastical new show for the whole family. This Olivier Award-nominated show comes to the U.S. direct from London's West End, from the creators of the international smash hit Dinosaur World Live, who bring spectacular puppets to life."

Public educational literacy event Jan. 18 at the Handy Street Laundromat in New Brunswick: Join Roosevelt Elementary School in this special after-school literacy program that is open to all. We will spend time reading together, doing hands-on activities, and giving out prizes! Educational and fun for everyone in the family! 4 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Handy Street Laundromat. Just show up with your kids.

Llama Llama Live! Sunday, February 5 at 1 p.m. at State Theatre in New Brunswick

Bring the family to Llama Llama Live!, a new musical inspired by the bestselling Llama, Llama Red Pajama series by Anna Dewdney and the new Netflix series! Award-winning playwright-composer-lyricist Austin Zumbro (Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site the Musical) has written a panoply of clever tunes in a variety of styles to create a fun-filled, contemporary musical that expresses the imagination of childhood for both children and adults to enjoy, including a song about the history of sleepwear through the ages.

Champions of Magic March 4 at 8 p.m. at State Theatre NJ in New Brunswick
