New Brunswick BB Gun Shooting May Be Part Of TikTok Challenge

Rutgers students walking near campus Saturday night were shot at with an airsoft or BB gun, which may be related to a TikTok challenge.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — Rutgers students walking near campus Saturday night were shot at with an airsoft or BB gun, which may be related to a TikTok challenge.

The students, a group of four, were fired at from the car at around 8 p.m. while walking near the intersection of George and Bayard streets. One victims was injured, but he did not require medical attention.

The car was described as a tan Toyota Sienna minivan that fled on Bayard St. toward Joyce Kilmer Avenue.

Also last weekend, Kevin Le, 20, of Manahawkin, was found with a battery-operated CO2 Airsoft-type rifle; he was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, said New Brunswick Police. However, any connection to the BB gun shooting Saturday night remains under investigation, said police.

There is a challenge currently on TikTok asking teens to conduct "drive-by shootings" where they fire a BB gun or pellet gun at other teens walking by. Teens across the nation have been injured from being shot in the face and even a 6-year-old was injured when he or she was shot by an Orbeez gun in Montana, according to this local Montana news report.
