New Brunswick Holi Celebration Is April 2; All Welcome

The Holi celebration of dried paint throwing will go from 1:00-3:00 p.m. outside the library. There will be food and dance performances.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — The New Brunswick Free Public Library, in partnership with the New Brunswick Cultural Center and Rutgers Indian Graduate Student Association, will host its 13th annual Indian Holi Festival on Saturday, April 2 this year.

The Holi celebration of colorful paint throwing will go from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. outside of the library at 60 Livingston Ave, New Brunswick NJ 08901. All and anyone is welcome to attend.

Holi is an exuberant festival of colors usually celebrated in the month of March. Originally called Holika, Holi is a Hindu festival meant to bring people together. Meeting and greeting friends and relatives and exchanging sweets and gifts are integral parts of Holi.

This year we are excited to bring back Holi color play, which will take place on the library’s front lawn towards the end of the festival. Powder colors will be provided while supplies last.

The outdoor celebration will begin with music & dance performances by Navrang Dance Academy, Sowparnika Dance Academy, Sanskruti School of Cultural Dance and Chinmayi Nrithyalaya. In addition, there will be henna, face painting and other activities. There will also be food samples donated by Mithaas restaurant North Brunswick, Bollywood Tadka in East Brunswick and Delhi Garden in Edison.

Along with the festival, the library will have a virtual painting workshop by professional artist Medha Atre on Friday, March 25 at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom. She will demonstrate a vibrant and colorful Holi painting. Participants will be able to follow at their own pace. Materials will be provided.
