New Brunswick Library Is FEMA Disaster Recovery Center Saturday

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — FEMA will open a Disaster Recovery Center from 10 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the New Brunswick Free Public Library, the city of New Brunswick announced Friday.

FEMA will be on site at the library to assist residents and business owners in filing and/or following up on assistance claims.

FEMA reps will also canvas New Brunswick neighborhoods this weekend and next week to provide in-person assistance. FEMA also opened a second disaster recovery site at the Middlesex County Fire Academy in Sayreville. That Sayreville site has more hours: Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

More than one thousand New Brunswick residents were evacuated from their homes last Thursday when the Raritan River rose to historic heights over its banks.

Middlesex County was one of the six counties that FEMA originally declared a major disaster zone.

The New Brunswick Free Public Library at 60 Livingston Avenue will serve as a FEMA Disaster Recovery Center. Residents and business owners can visit the library from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday for help in filing FEMA disaster relief claims or check on the status of a claim they may have already filed. Representatives will be able to provide housing and rental assistance information to residents who suffered flood or other damages.
