New Brunswick Looking For Block Captains For Clean City Program

From New Brunswick officials: New Brunswick’s Clean City Program is looking to enlist Block Captains in all neighborhoods to help keep the City clean one block at a time.

On Wednesday, March 19, the New Brunswick Environmental Commission will hold its monthly meeting at the New Brunswick Free Public Library, 60 Livingston Avenue at 7:00 p.m., and outline the Clean City Block Captain program that has proven successful for those blocks in the program that exist today.

The theme of this year’s Clean City Block Captain program is to Teach, Motivate and Conduct!  This grassroots effort will have each Block Captain teach neighbors why it is important to keep their block clean; motivate residents to maintain their own property; and conduct mini-cleanups with their neighbors.

“This program has raised awareness about the importance of litter reduction and keeping our City clean.  It’s about neighbors educating neighbors with the City’s technical support and supplies.  We hope many New Brunswick residents sign up to become Block Captains on March 19th,” said Donna Caputo, Clean Communities Coordinator for New Brunswick.

According to Caputo, the Block Captains will conduct mini-cleanups periodically with their neighbors.

New Block Captains who sign-up at the March 19th meeting will receive instructions on conducting mini-clean-ups, hand-out materials, bags and gloves to help conduct mini-clean-ups.
