New Brunswick Men, Teens On Dirt Bikes Arrested After They Refused To Stop For Police, Cops Say

MIDDLESEX BOROUGH, NJ — Several men from New Brunswick were arrested and charged with eluding after police say they rode dirt bikes and ATVs recklessly through Middlesex borough, and ignored police commands to stop.

Middlesex borough Police say there were two separate incidents that happened in that town on May 2:

At 6 p.m. that night, a police officer observed a group of ATVs and dirt bikes traveling westbound on Bound Brook Road in the area of Seventh Street. The operators were observed failing to maintain their lanes, performing stunts and disregarding red traffic signals at the intersection of Mountain Avenue and Greenbrook Road, said police. None of the dirt bikes or ATVs had license plates either, said police.

A police officer ordered them to stop, but the motorbikes did not stop and instead continued driving recklessly through the borough.

A follow-up investigation done by Middlesex Police resulted in six adult men charged with second-degree eluding:

Eric Rodriguez, 30, of Perth Amboy, Breidy Taveras, 34, of New Brunswick, Justice Philip, 27, of Somerset, Derek E. Gomez, 25, of New Brunswick, Christian J. Perez, 30, of East Stroudsburg, PA and Jesus A. Vega, 43, of New Brunswick.

Later that evening, at 8:13 p.m., police started getting numerous reports of teen boys riding bicycles recklessly in and out of traffic in the area around the QuickChek on Harris Avenue. A police officer located the group and observed several teens not wearing helmets, operating bicycles without lights, performing stunts, and riding in a dangerous and reckless manner. The teens on the bicycles also refused police commands to stop and continued riding recklessly through the grounds of Von E. Mauger Middle School, along Union Avenue, Bound Brook Road and several surrounding side streets.

The following juveniles were charged with fourth-degree resisting arrest, on juvenile delinquency complaints: A 16-year-old Manville teen boy, a 14-year-old South Bound Brook teen boy and a 13-year-old New Brunswick teen boy.
